Laziness...

So I know I said I'd get pictures up in a day or so last week of my scouts but I was honestly lazy and forgot to. So they will be posted today along with this update.

Now after looking around several blogs and a couple of forums I discovered some ideas on what could have caused the primer to ruin the plastic. No real solid ideas, but I did get the idea of using automotive primer from somewhere. Sure enough the local store had some and so I picked it up. Then it dawned on me that I should probably double check. Looking around again I couldn't find anything on how well it would work on plastics. Metals I assumed would be fine, after all cars are mostly metal and it was also recommended in the case of resin as apparently you need a higher quality of primer for it. Not having worked with it yet I assume this is true.

So as today was fairly nice when I woke up I figured I'd try it out. Being cautious I first worked out if it would eat the plastic in a similar manner and I was pleased to see that it didn't for one of the ruined models. On two of the others I worked out how far I needed to be to get a good layer. Sadly I deemed my assault cannon arm for the dreadnought as "not salvageable" and decided to replace it's weaponry with the lascannon and missile launcher combo.

I'd also like to get both layers of primer off of the powerfist/flamer arm, if anyone reading this knows how to strip it from metal? First layer is the black enamel and the second is whatever this gray auto primer is. Unsure if simple green will do the trick or not. Maybe rubbing alcohol? Say something with that for paint stripping.

The only issue I had was not being able to finish due to it started to rain so I got next to no where. But I still did get some work done and figured out where I needed to be distance wise and such. So without further ado, the pictures I promised.

Disaster And More Scout Work.

So it seems my laziness is followed up by bursts of hard work and half way decent work. It's been over a week since my last post partially due to my own laziness and another part due to work being so dominating recently.

Eitherway I had some progress over the past week.

First up is me being stalled on my project from the last post. I had borrowed a friend's primer as she had black for her Sisters of Battle and It met with some disaster. Besides running out after I barely started, anything plastic had a decent chance of melting in spots. I've been told I was to close dispite I followed the guidance on the can but eitherway I had no real loss besides the detail on three space marines that were extras. The dreadnought's chaingun arm also suffered some but it was on the side that connect to the main body (In fact this was the piece I realized it on and was noticed quickly enough that I was able to clear out the hole for where it connects). Sadly however the model most affected was an old Terminator Librarian that had come out of one of the expansions of the orignal space hulk I believe. I don't know if it is older than that but I seem to remember seeing a picture of it in the marines supplied with Genestealer.

Eitherway due to lack of effective primer and another friend getting a car at the end of the month I have decided to hold off on the new(er) guys until then when we plan on going and finding a Games Workshop.

Now because of this and some input I managed to finish that scout I started way back when. Not only that but I was able to get another scout to the same point I stopped at on the one before him. I'll have pictures up tommorrow, but I think he turned out pretty well all things considered and his companion is doing just as well. I think I'll round out the squad though I won't be starting on Sgt Tellion untill I can get some good files and other stuff to sutably convert him. I have found you can get a lot done when you have 12 hours set aside.

Anyway, till next time.

New Project

Well It's been a bit longer than I wanted to wait before posting again but here it is. Better late than never right?

Anyway to the point, working on something other than the scout. I'm almost finished with the first one (taken me long enough, I know) when I go and lose his head. So I'm putting that project one the back burner while I take care of this one.

It is mainly focused on getting my second Tactical Squad up and running. I borrowed some primer from a friend due to the difficulties in getting some here and plan on priming up a good chunk of the marines I got. And sing I'm at it I figured I'd kill multiple birds with one stone and take care of the packs for my already primed assault squad, an old Librarian in terminator armor, a random marine with bolter, a standard barer, an apothecary an old random sergeant, and my new dreadnought.

And now for some fairly bad quality photos of me getting the pieces ready...
