Now after looking around several blogs and a couple of forums I discovered some ideas on what could have caused the primer to ruin the plastic. No real solid ideas, but I did get the idea of using automotive primer from somewhere. Sure enough the local store had some and so I picked it up. Then it dawned on me that I should probably double check. Looking around again I couldn't find anything on how well it would work on plastics. Metals I assumed would be fine, after all cars are mostly metal and it was also recommended in the case of resin as apparently you need a higher quality of primer for it. Not having worked with it yet I assume this is true.
So as today was fairly nice when I woke up I figured I'd try it out. Being cautious I first worked out if it would eat the plastic in a similar manner and I was pleased to see that it didn't for one of the ruined models. On two of the others I worked out how far I needed to be to get a good layer. Sadly I deemed my assault cannon arm for the dreadnought as "not salvageable" and decided to replace it's weaponry with the lascannon and missile launcher combo.
I'd also like to get both layers of primer off of the powerfist/flamer arm, if anyone reading this knows how to strip it from metal? First layer is the black enamel and the second is whatever this gray auto primer is. Unsure if simple green will do the trick or not. Maybe rubbing alcohol? Say something with that for paint stripping.
The only issue I had was not being able to finish due to it started to rain so I got next to no where. But I still did get some work done and figured out where I needed to be distance wise and such. So without further ado, the pictures I promised.
